Call for submissions for A Dragon and Her Girl anthology

Posted on August 8, 2018 - August 16, 2018 by Joe

This is a call for submissions to participate in A Dragon and Her Girl: Stories of Adventure, the second of the benefit (charity) anthologies to help the Life, the Universe, & Everything symposium. The anthology will be jointly published by Hemelein Publications and LTUE Press. This anthology will be edited by Joe Monson and Jaleta Clegg, the editors of the first anthology, Trace the Stars.

For this anthology, we are looking for the following:

1. Adventure fantasy featuring strong female protagonists (dragons are a huge plus!)
2. Stories up to 17,500 words
3. Unpublished or reprint stories

Stories are due by December 15, 2018. If you have a story that meets these criteria, please review the attached call for submissions for more details and follow the directions there to submit your story.

If you don’t have a story of your own, but you know someone who does, please share this post with them. If you don’t have a story that fits the criteria for this anthology, be aware there will be additional benefit anthologies published in the future that will fall under a variety of different genres.

We look forward to your participation!

We’ve closed submissions on Trace the Stars

Posted on May 14, 2018 - May 28, 2018 by Joe

Submissions have been closed for the Trace the Stars benefit anthology I am co-editing with Jaleta Clegg. You can read the announcement about it here or here. There will be an official release party in February 2019 at Life, the Universe, & Everything. I’ll post the details of location, date, and time as soon as I have them.

Just to refresh your memory, here’s the not-yet-final cover:

LTUE 2018, days 2-3

Posted on February 18, 2018 - February 18, 2018 by Joe

The second day at LTUE was quite relaxed. I didn’t have any panels I was on, so I relaxed and chatted with friends. It was good to catch up with Jessica Douglas, Kaitlund Zupanic, M. Todd Gallowglas, and others. I finally got to meet Sarah A. Hoyt and Todd McCaffrey, too.

On the third day, I hosted the LTUE Benefit Anthology Preview, where we unveiled the cover art for the upcoming Trace the Stars anthology. You can see the post about it here. The cover image is attached to this post. I’m looking forward to accepting the last few stories we need (with my co-editor, Jaleta Clegg) and releasing it next year at the symposium so everyone else can read the stories, too.

Trace the Stars – January update

Posted on January 26, 2018 - January 30, 2018 by Joe

We received quite a few submissions for the Trace the Stars benefit anthology we (myself and Jaleta Clegg) are putting together. We have winnowed the first batch down to the 11 we want to use, which fills up about three-quarters of the planned available space in the anthology.

Since this is the first one we are doing, we didn’t know how quickly we would fill up, so we set the submission deadline to July 31, 2018. It looks like we may very well fill it up long before that deadline. The accepted stories are all different and will make a solid anthology.

If you want a sneak peak, please come to the anthology preview on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 6pm in the Boardroom at the Provo Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. We will reveal the cover art and many of the authors whose stories will be included. You can see more details on the event here.

Hot & Spicy Cinnamon Oreos

Posted on January 18, 2018 - January 30, 2018 by Joe

These are totally awesome. They taste just like Oreos and the cinnamon candy hearts combined. Some of the flavored Oreos Nabisco has concocted are not very good, but these…THESE hit it out of the park. I will be bringing some for the green room at LTUE.
